It’s monsoon and the college campuses are filled with water, colours , umbrellas and chic rain-wear

It's monsoon and raining along with the showers are fashion trends like never before. From white in summers it is suddenly pouring colours. Starting with tiny umbrellas, plastic shoes to fancy caps, the college campus has started resembling a live ramp.

According to Sneha Gore, a student of Department of communication studies, University of Pune, " I don't like rainy season but then it can't keep me away from looking good and neat. I am not fond of umbrellas but then I like flaunting colourful jackets, denim and fancy floaters. That gives me a sporty look that makes me feel cool and trendy."

Chavi Thapar, a second year economics student of Fergusson College is a die-hard umbrella freak. "I wait for the rains to come just because I get chance to carry an umbrella wherever I go. And then the weather itself gives you all the reasons to wear shorts, T-shirts. I don't understand why people can't wear accessories during rains. I wear all the accessories and jacket on top to protect them," says she.

Be comfortable in whatever you wear, is the dressing mantra for Feith Gondwe, a BCA student of Bharti Vidyapeeth. "Rains can't stop me from doing anything. I have always been wearing what I am comfortable with. And be it rains or any other season for that matter, a pair of capris, sneakers, sweaters and simple slippers make me ready for all kind of outings," she says.

Talk to the shopkeepers and they are all happy about the changing trends in the college world. Why wouldn't they be, after all isn't fashion the biggest business? "This time the rains are about short corduroy jackets for boys as well as girls, Capri, jeans, heram pants both- printed as well as plain as they are soft and easy to be washed. Girls also go for new chiffon wear for casual and party wear. For casual look I would suggest you to go for narrow fitting jeans or short kurtis with skirts and woolen jackets. The good part about theses outfits is that they look good but are still cheap and affordable and can be worn by anyone and everyone," says Janhavi Kataria, owner, Heartbeats, a shop on Fergusson road.

Prasad Khedekar, who owns a shoe shop in the city says, "Walking with the rain on the street is a challenging task but then we have simple shoes and sandals available in the market for the season. For instance the popular-kito sandals for boys as well as girls and the most recent introduction- sport shoes and belts shoes."

The new college semester is about to begin and the new college fashion fundas are already all over the town. So get ready for short T-shirts with lots of designs on them in a riot of colours, sports shoes, chic sweaters, jackets, and simple sandals that everyone's gonna sport to make sure the rains don't dampen the fashion spirit.
